Once you have done a self assessment and created your branding, you are ready to target the companies you would like to work for. Here is a summary of the strategies suggested by Andrew LaCivita, Virginie Cantin, Katherine Burik, and Allison Charriez.
Having a targeted list of companies makes it easier to ask for help when you network.
- Brainstorm what companies could use your skills
- What companies are clients of or vendors for the company you work for.
- Google Best of Lists, fastest growing company lists, best __companies to work for.
- Use Reference USA at your local library to research companies of a particular size in a specific geographic area.
- Use Indeed CareerBliss, The Muse, and Glassdoor to find companies that hire people with your skills.
- Find Networking Group Lists and see where people work
- Use LinkedIn to find out who works at those companies.
- Once you have 30 or more companies, go to their websites, talk to people who work there, and discover their values, missions, culture, and geographic locations. What type of people work there?
